What is RAD Women’s Self-Defense?

The National Standard in Self Defense Education(tm)

The Rape Aggression Defense System is a program of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women. The RAD System is a comprehensive, women-only course that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands-on defense training. RAD is not a Martial Arts program. Our courses are taught by nationally certified RAD Instructors and provide each student with a workbook/reference manual. This manual outlines the entire Physical Defense Program for reference and continuous personal growth, and is the key to our Free Lifetime Return and Practice Policy for RAD graduates.

  • RAD is the largest network of its kind with over 8000 Instructors receiving training in our systems to date. These Instructors teach at colleges, universities, and municipal law enforcement agencies as well as various other community organizations internationally.
  • RAD has trained more than 400,000 women since the program began in1989.
  • RAD is the only existing program with a free lifetime return and practice policy, honored throughout the US and Canada.
  • RAD is designed for the average woman—no previous experience in physical training required.
  • There is no age limit for a woman’s participation in RAD.
  • Once a woman has completed the program, she may take it again and again, as often as she likes throughout her life-free of charge.

RAD is great for:

  • high school students going to after-school sports/clubs or parties with friends
  • young women in colleges or universities
  • women whose work involves travel
  • busy moms who must stay safe to keep their kids safe
  • older women who may feel vulnerable at home or venturing out
